how do i release the ip address of comcast xfinity SMCD3GNV gateway?

mike Asked: how do i release the ip address of comcast xfinity SMCD3GNV gateway?

i have had this modem for a couple weeks and i am noticing that my incoming ports are being flooded. the only way to stop the attack is to change my ip address.
when i run cmd and ipconfig/release/renew it just resets my ip addres on my computer to 10.0.0.2..
which is just the gateway assigning it anything after 10.0.0.1
the gateway itself is 10.0.0.1.
is there a way to make the gateway itself release the ip address?
